On my daily walk this morning, along one of my favorite Cape Cod nature trails, I noticed my first butterfly of the season crossing my path. It stayed with me for a few minutes, eventually landing on a yellow flower in a nearby meadow.
I began thinking about this butterfly – and the transformation it had taken to become one. It reminded me of a favorite quote by beloved poet Maya Angelou, “We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”
Every great transformation – whether personal, professional or creative – involves a process that isn’t always pleasant. There are many twists and turns, lots of creating and adjusting, and a necessary willingness to “see it all through.”
It’s a unique journey that can be described metaphorically, “from caterpillar to butterfly.”
And at the end of this metamorphosis, we usually discover that it’s all worth it – when we can see the fruits of our labor and the beautiful new wings that we’ve created for ourselves.
Of course, this discovery doesn’t come without a few bumps and bruises along the way.
What big change are you currently experiencing? What great transformation is just over the horizon for you?
What parts of your life are breaking down – in order for new developments to come through?
These are the types of rich questions that we’ll be exploring in this summer’s Moonlight Journaling Retreat – where we’ll be dabbling with 18 different journal writing techniques as we journey through the moon phases during a real-time 28-day lunar cycle.
Come join a beautiful and very sacred circle of women – and dance with your inner wisdom as you explore the various aspects of yourself, your life, and your relationships with others – through the art of journal writing.
Our circle opens on June 15th – just in time for the summer solstice and the next new moon.
